6 Things Every Milos Traveler Should Know Before They Arrive
After 25 summers on this island these are the things
I wish someone had told me before my first visit.
- You need a vehicle, full stop
Mlos is not walkable between beaches. Rent a car, ATV or scooter from day one. Do not rely on buses.
- Book boat tours at least 3-4 weeks before you arrive July and August tours fill up very quickly. Book immediately, not the night before the day you want to do the tour.
- The best beaches are boat-only
Kleftiko, Gerakas and Polyegos cannot be reached by road. If you skip the boat tour you miss the best of Milos entirely.
- August has strong winds (meltemi)
Some boat tours get cancelled in August due to northern winds. Always have a backup plan for windy days, explore Plaka or the east coast instead.
- Try pitarakia and watermelon pie or koufeto
These are Milos specialties you will not find anywhere else in Greece. Order them everywhere you see them on a menu.
- Avoid parking at Adamas port
You will get a ticket. Park slightly outside
the port area and walk, it takes 3 minutes and saves you the fine.
